IT`S CARNAVAL TIME!

IT`S CARNAVAL TIME! The first week-end of March is going to be filled with  CARNAVAL celebrations in Madeira. Our carnaval theme this year is  ” Magical Forest” and the idea came from the fact that 2011 is the International Year of Forests.
Carnaval has been celebrated in Funchal since 30 years ago. The main parade, which is consisting of 8 different groups, has about 1100 participants that have been rehearsing hard for the past few months.
On Tuesday afternoon there will be another parade, very different from Saturday night’s parade and more typical Madeirian one. Anyone can participate on this fun event, including tourists visiting Funchal. So, welcome to samba with us and have fun!

MADEIRA AFTER THE STORM FEBRUARY 20, 2010

You all, of course, know what happened in Madeira this February 2010.We had a dramatic storm with floods that destroyed parts of our beautiful capital Funchal as well as some other parts of the island. Unfortunately many people lost their homes and some lives were lost too. Though these kind of catastrophes tend to happen now and again all over the world, life still continues and we will always adapt and reconstruct our lifes.

Within a week from that sad Saturday, February 20th, Funchal was practically all clean again with reconstruction works advancing at an incredible pace, thanks to our hard working professionals and the countless volunteers that have been working non-stop.
Life is back to normal; museums, shops, restaurants are open and one can drive safely to different parts of the island following the main roads and respecting the traffic signs.
Madeira continues beautiful and green and our nature strong and impressive. Come and see with your own eyes! More than ever we need you all to visit us now. Continue to holiday and choose Madeira!

Island of Flowers – Madeira

Since the 17th century, Madeira has been known as the Atlantic garden. According to the season, different flowers break open on the island. Their colors and fragrances allure the passers-by.

The DSC07759discoverers from distant countries, like the Far East, on their way back to Europe often stopped in Madeira to refresh themselves, leaving behind exotic plants. This is how many plants, amongst them the Orchid, were introduced to Madeira. The Sub -tropical climate made it easy for local inhabitants, as well as foreigners living in Madeira, to take care of these plants. Nowadays, growing Orchids is a thriving commerce on the island and most of the Orchids grown are exported as cut flowers.

The Orchid is a symbol of Madeira. For some cultures, an Orchid symbolizes perfection or beauty. Willing to continue these beliefs, The Orchids Gifts of Madeira provides you with a large variety of jewellery made of fresh, natural Orchid blooms and petals, preserved through several methods, defeating the reality of fresh Orchids only tending to last but a few days. Our jewellery gives you the opportunity to preserve an exclusive flower for several years.

Besides that, each Orchid flower is natural and distinctive. For this reason, we may consider Orchid jewellery outstanding and exceptionally diverse. Each Orchid is different from the other, making the individual who has purchased our Orchid jewellery, feeling special and unique

Madeira’s lava vestige

>In the Atlantic Ocean there can be found a beautiful flower island of volcanic origin that is MADEIRA. Madeira’s coastlines, volcanic sea pools, caves, mountain trails and levada pathways bring us upon an array of beautiful flowers. Fine strands and twisted threads of Lava can be seen on some parts of the island and there are different flowers blooming all year round, in the wild forests and manicured gardens.

For visitors, Madeira-island will stay longer in your heart, if you take a little keepsake home with you – piece of our Orchid jewellery or an exiting piece of Lava Stone jewellery. Our jewellery items are suitable for anyone who appreciates nature and beauty, even if you yet, haven’t visited Madeira.
