This is how many plants, amongst them Orchids, were introduced to Madeira. The plants adapted well to the islands sub -tropical climate at the hands of local inhabitants as well as foreigners living in Madeira. Today, the cultivation of Orchids is a small thriving industry here, as Orchids are exported as cut flowers.
